Drunk driver kills five in Ondo road accident No fewer than five people lost their lives while several others were injured in an accident which occurred at the Agbabu junction on the Ore – Okitipupa road in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Friday evening. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr.  Femi Joseph, said the accident occurred at about 6.30pm. He said, “Five people died in the accident, three females and two males. From the information we got from one of the survivors, it was the driver of the bus, simply identified as Daniel, who caused the accident as he left his lane to collide with the other vehicle coming from Okitipupa. “We were told that the driver was drinking alcohol while he was driving and swerved to the other lane to collide with the car. God won’t forgive me if I support Atiku for president – Obasanjo Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar “can never enjoy” his support for a political office. Obasanjo, in an interview with  Premium Times,  said God will never forgive him if he backs Atiku’s presidential ambition. Atiku served as vice-president to Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. He aspired to succeed Obasanjo in 2003 but the elder statesman went ahead to complete another term. By 2007 when Obasanjo’s second term ended, both men had fallen apart. Obasanjo’s alleged third term agenda was also said to have worsened their dispute. Obasanjo said he has no personal grudges against Atiku but only works with anyone “working for the good of Nigeria”. Ighalo grabs 12th goal in China Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo, continued his impressive scoring form for Changchun Yatai by grabbing the equalising goal in their 1-1 home draw with 10-man Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League on Saturday. Ighalo’s strike came in the 71st minute after he was set up by Serbian, Nemanja Pejcinovic. Shanghai Shenhua took the lead a minute after the half hour mark through Cao Yunding. They were reduced to 10-men eight minutes from time when Sun Shilin was sent off for a second bookable offence. Ighalo also grabbed a brace in Changchun Yatai’s previous league game against Tiajin Quanjian, which they won 3-0. He has now netted 12 goals in 16 appearances in the CSL for his club this season. The former Watford striker is currently the joint second top scorer in the CSL along with Isreali international, Eran Zahavi. Changchun Yatai moved from 12th to 10th position in the table following the draw.

The 21-year-old is likely to start next Friday’s tie; with England international Jamie Vardy – who returns to Leicester a week before the fixture – expected to be rested. Umahi bars APC from using Abakaliki Stadium for rally Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has barred members of the All Progressives Congress, Ebonyi State Chapter, from using the Abakaliki Township Stadium as venue of its rally scheduled to hold on Saturday. Umahi, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, made the assertion on Thursday while addressing members of the State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria during a courtesy visit. He announced that the stadium was undergoing reconstruction work, including asphalting of the entire premises and installation of floodlights. “I urge the opposition All Progressives Congress in the state to look elsewhere for its proposed rally slated for Saturday. “The Abakaliki Stadium it vowed to use for the rally is still undergoing reconstruction and renovation,” the governor said. Police arrest killers of former Katsina commissioner, 35 Zamfara bandits The Police Force Headquarters on Wednesday paraded eight members of a robbery gang which attacked commuters along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, during which a former Commissioner for Education in Katsina State, Prof Halimatu Idris, was shot dead. The suspects are Lawal Tukur, 40, leader of the gang; Sulaiman Sani, 27; Abubakar Ahmad, 30; Abubakar Adamu, 33; Yahaya Musa, 33; Kabiru Bala, 23; Rufai Tukur, 26; and Shehu Audi, 32. This is just as the police said 35 bandits had been arrested in Zamfara State in connection with the attacks and killings in some villages of the state. The Force Police Public Relations Officer, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Moshood, who paraded the suspects in Abuja, said Tukur and Sani confessed to having killed four of the commuters, including the former Katsina commissioner on the day of the attack. I wish I was never a member of APC, Kwara Speaker says, leads 23 lawmakers to PDP Twenty-three out of the 24 members of the Kwara State House of Assembly on Wednesday defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party. Only the member representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency of Offa Local Government Area, Mr. Saheed Popoola, remains in APC. The Speaker of the Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, speaking on the floor of the House during the defection, said APC had been “fictionalised.” Ahmad said, “All the honorable members — except one — have finally changed party to the PDP. “This is permitted by the Proviso to Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “Today, as I and other members of the Kwara State Assembly dump the APC for good, I heaved a sigh of relief. “In 2014, I was terribly sad leaving PDP reluctantly with 36 other members of the House of Representatives. “Today, I am the happiest leaving the APC for good...
