Farmer bagged jailed term for defiling 13-year-old girl





A Magistrate’s Court in Minna, Niger State, on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old farmer, Tanko Yau, to seven years imprisonment for having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl.
Magistrate Binta Rijau convicted Yau on April 20 but reserved sentencing after he pleaded guilty to a count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor.
The prosecutor, Insp. Gunduma Ibrahim, had told the court that one Mohammed Bello reported the matter to the police.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Ibrahim said the complainant alleged that the accused lured his daughter into his room and had sexual intercourse with her.
According to him, the offence is contrary to Section 18 (2) of the Child Right Law of Niger State.
The convict pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him and begged the court for leniency.
The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court to try the accused summarily in line with Section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code
